Draft Value Index (VI) measures the fantasy production a manager received compared with the draft capital used to select that player. Early picks carry much higher expectations than late picks, so raw points alone do not determine whether a selection was good value.
The formula is weighted 65% toward positional return—how the player performed against other drafted players at the same position after accounting for where those players were selected—and 35% toward overall draft return against the entire draft class. A VI near 0 represents roughly expected return. Positive VI means the player outperformed the investment; negative VI means the pick returned less than its draft cost suggested.
A late-round player produces 215 BSBFFL points and performs similarly to players drafted several rounds earlier.
+42 VILow draft cost + starter-level production = excellent return.A premium selection produces 118 BSBFFL points while comparable first-round and same-position players substantially outperform him.
−37 VIThe player still scored points, but the return did not justify the premium investment.Think of VI as return on investment, not a fantasy-points leaderboard. A 200-point season from Round 10 can be tremendous value; the same production at 1.01 could be disappointing. These examples are illustrative and are not actual BSBFFL results. Because dropped players stop appearing in Sleeper league matchup data, VI measures value produced inside BSBFFL rather than necessarily a player's full NFL-season fantasy total.
Archetypes compare each manager's career behavior with BSBFFL league averages. They are recalculated as new drafts are completed; they are descriptive tendencies, not permanent labels.
